Dear SPARK Families,

As hard as it is to believe, we will be closing out the 2021-2022 school year in two weeks. Lately, I have been reflecting on my own summers as a child growing up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. One of my favorite summer pastimes was to read. I would love to go to my local library, browse the shelves, and go home with a stack of books that was almost taller than me! Even when we did not travel to visit family members in other states, I felt fulfilled because I had traveled the world via my books.


What are your student’s favorite summer memories so far? What are yours? I encourage you to have a conversation with your students where you both share with each other about your favorite memories and experiences. What are the similarities and differences? You can use what you learn from each other to create a new experience for this summer!

ACE & ASPIRE Dance Showcase and Family Vendor Fair Saturday, May 14th

ACE & ASPIRE Invites families to attend the family vendor fair and dance showcase on Saturday, May 14th from 11a-3pm at Southside Secondary Campus (5515 South Loop East Fwy, Houston TX 77033). The vendor fair will be from 11:00-12:30pm with community partners such as Houston Food Bank, Amazon Fresh, and more attending! There will even be raffle prizes available. Doors to the showcase will open at 12:30pm with the show starting at 1pm. This day of events is free to all families. We encourage you to attend and see what these amazing dance teams have been working on!

Thank you, Family Association

We want to thank our Family Association and ALL of the families that donated money, gifts, and their talents to make our teachers and staff members feel appreciated this week. The attention to all the details was impressive and a reflection of the LOVE from where our parents and families served our teachers today. Special thanks to Ms. Suyapa, our Family Fellow, for all the logistics and for bringing it all together. Again, families, thank you for making today a special day for our fantastic staff members. We are so grateful for the love you give our team.





!!Last Coffee with a Principal - Date change!!

To not distract from the STAAR test our students will be taking, we are moving our last Coffee with the Principal to May 19th from 8 AM - 9 AM. This meeting is in person. The goal of the meeting is to exchange feedback and ask questions.

We would love to see you there and enjoy coffee and donuts with us!







3rd Grade STAAR Test/ 3er Grado Examen de STAAR

Dear families,
Next Wednesday and Thursday, we will have STAAR Testing will be on this day. Please ensure all SPARKS eat a nutritious filled with protein breakfast before arriving at school, this is a long test and we want them to have the energy to complete it. These days, breakfast at school will be smoothies and fruit, and some students may not like it. If they are eating at school, make sure that they arrive at 7:00 AM so that they have time to eat. All students must be in attendance for the whole day as some of them qualify for extra time and may test longer than 4 hrs.

Please make sure students get a good night's sleep and encourage them to do their best. Communicate your belief in them and assure them that they are prepared and will do well.
As a reminder: No visitors allow these days at school.

Student Attendance Reminders

Parents, please be reminded that we need you to contact our campus at 713-842-5555 if your student is going to be absent.

An excuse note must be turned in to the FRONT OFFICE within 48 hours of their return to campus. Excuse notes will NOT be accepted after 48 hours. You can send the excuse with your student, or you can email Mrs. Tristan at

To remain in compliance with our district, please note the following:

  • All excuse notes need to be received within 48 hours of the absence.
  • If the absence falls on a Friday, the note must be received no later than Tuesday. 
  • Notes received after 48 hours will not be accepted and the absence will not be excused.
  • Only three (3) handwritten excuse notes will be accepted per six-week grading period. Handwritten notes will not be accepted for absences of 3 days or more.
  • After this limit is reached, only documentation from a medical provider or official entity (court, etc.) will be accepted to excuse an absence.
