Dear SPARK Families,

“Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education.”

  • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

I picked this quote because it resonates a lot with our work and mission here at YES Prep Southeast Elementary. This past week we have put in a lot of work towards the intelligence piece, specifically in 3rd grade, where our SPARKS took their very first reading and math Common Assessments. The data from these assessments will help us gain insight into our SPARKS current knowledge and any gaps that may need to be addressed. If you have a third-grader at home, give them a huge hug and ask them about their experience with the exam. We know it was daunting, as it was their first real experience with a lengthy exam, but our SPARKS were up to the task, took their time, and showed us all they have learned thus far! We are so proud of all our SPARKS! Even our Kinder through second-grade SPARKS have been finalizing their MAP testing. Thank you, families, for your collaboration in ensuring our SPARKS come to school, each and every day, ready to learn.

But intelligence isn’t our only goal, we want to build SPARKS with character. We do this collaboratively with you every day when we redirect behavior, model expectations, and talk to our SPARKS about their hopes, dreams, and goals. I can’t wait to see what our SPARKS will achieve when they’re older.

Best,

Ms. Moreno

Down Syndrome Family Connections Group Starting in January

Barb Campbell, Director of Family Engagement

We are excited to share about a new opportunity for Yes Prep families! Starting in January, we will have a monthly gathering for all families with children who have Down Syndrome. This will be a unique opportunity for families to meet each other and share support, encouragement, resources, and celebrations related to our unique and amazing kids. Our first meeting will be Tuesday, January 25 in the evening, with dinner and childcare provided. If you are interested, please contact sydney.boule@gmail.com. We sincerely believe that our students and families with Down Syndrome are valued members of our community, and we cannot wait for the opportunity to know and serve you better!

2022-2023 Lottery Season

Student applications for the 2022-2023 school year are live! We will be offering grades PK4 through 4th grade next school year. Make sure to complete an application for any of your other students and spread the word to people you may know who are interested! Visit www.yesprep.org/sayYES for more information or give us a call at the front office. You do not need to reapply for your student(s) currently enrolled with us.

Lost and Found Update

We have collected many sweaters, lunch boxes, and water bottles that students have lost. All items we currently have will be posted on ClassDojo by Ms. Conley, our Director of Campus Operations. If you see one of those items belongs to your child please comment on the photo. We can either have the item ready for you to pick up or send it home with the student. We will begin donating items that are left unclaimed after a week.
